When we hear quality music, we can't help but wonder how the magic happens. And when we first heard The Brummies, we had to find out. We recently had the honor of catching up with John Davidson, one of the trio's vocalists and multi-instrumentalists, to hear about how this amazing band came to be.

Three old friends originally hailing from the same neighborhood in Alabama, that now call Nashville home, have been crafting their uniquely phenomenal sound for years and they've definitely got musical superpowers. The melodic trio creates psychedelic sounds of modern rock, with a beautiful sense of nostalgia to it all. Their music would perfectly complement a surf film, as a stellar soundtrack - maybe a future project to consider guys…? Their evolving sound comes together so seamlessly, you can tell these guys know each other well. John, Jacob Bryant, and Trevor Davis all love the same music, yet they each contribute their individual and different styles to what they produce. With strong influences from The Beatles, ELO, and Elton John, to Beach House and Tame Impala, John explained that they’re recently also vibing on a lot of new music too:

“this fusion of older style music mixed with the modern rock stuff is great - we’re a fan of melody and harmony, and not doing the traditional chords.”

After having written a plethora of songs, The Brummies picked the ones they loved the most and gifted the world with their first full studio album in 2018 called, Eternal Reach. As you listen the album, you can definitely hear a tale of lust and loss from start to finish.

“We always wanted to tell a story thru an album, and we threaded the songs together in such a way to make a narrative throughout the album; a story of love that may or may not work out.”

Every track is gold, but we particularly love the legendary harmonies on number 5, “Drive Away”, which they worked with the incredibly talented Kacey Musgraves on! The guys actually toured with Kacey for over a year across the US & UK, creating a lasting friendship, and the magic they make in this song is epic. The song describes a night of going out and getting after it, then reconnecting for just a night with an old acquaintance. 

Touring at the moment, The Brummies are performing up and down the east coast of the US, and will likely be staying on the road for the spring. Having previously performed at massive festivals such as Firefly, Bonnaroo, and Sloss, it sounds like the guys would love to play at additional major festivals down the road. With an already very successful and established career thus far, there’s no stopping these three, and I think we’re going to be hearing a lot more from The Brummies.
