Proximity || Art Show by Todd Glaser

There is true beauty in something that captures the rawness and actuality of a moment.  Proximity, by Taylor Steele is one of the most talked about surf films of all time and promises to embrace the experience and essence of surfing. It allows viewers to watch and listen to intimate moments and shared sets between an all-star cross-generational and cross-style cast of surfers such as Kelly Slater, John John Florence, Rob Machado, Craig Anderson, Albee Layer, Shane Dorian, Stephanie Gilmore and Dave Rastovich.  So, what happens when these filmed moments of brilliance are captured it in a single image?  You get Proximity through the eyes and lens of Todd Glaser.

Scrimshaw recently attended and photographed Proximity: Todd Glaser’s Art Show at Said Space in Encinitas, CA.  The gallery was arranged to take you through the experience of the film, portraying perfectly captured images of surf and moments of vulnerability.

Photographs depicting legends Kelly Slater and John John Florence in an intense match of chess next to an image of Stephanie Gilmore tearing up a right point showed the beauty and juxtaposition of the event.

Todd and Taylor’s event was filled with surfers, artists, photographers, friends and family all gathered to enjoy good drinks and share a mutual love of the ocean.  This is Proximity: Todd Glaser’s Art Show, through Scrimshaw’s eyes.
