Talking swimsuits and surfing over a cup of coffee in Northern San Diego, where Katelyn grew up, it was immediately possible to see the passion and creativity that drives NÜERA.  Only blocks from the beach, an inspirational location for both NÜERA and Scrimshaw, Katelyn explained how NÜERA came about because her and her friends “spent afternoons surfing or diving for hours and literally went through hundreds of bikinis, and could never find the perfect one.”  NÜERA introduces neoprene (wetsuit material) suits that are comfortable, soft, durable, insulated, and WILL NOT COME OFF in the water. Ladies, let me say that again...WILL NOT COME OFF. NÜERA found that for the aquatic female, suits never stayed on, weren’t comfortable, and provided zero support.  Nothing is worse that charging down the face of a wave only to be distracted by your bikini. Fortunately, wearing NÜERA, you and your suit will be the distraction, rather than the other way around.

Katelyn talked about gathering inspiration from her surroundings and how for her next collection she is “looking into lush, tropical, hand painted textiles paired with rich color gradients.” The creativity of NÜERA comes from the exploration of the ocean, so it was only fitting to ask about her favorite surf spots and where it all began for her. “I learned to surf at Swamis, in Encinitas, so that's my all time favorite beach and surf spot, but when the crowds get out of control and it turns into "swarmies", I branch out to other spots like Pipes or Terra Mar.” We can all trust in NÜERA’s style and design as it is inspired and tested by a local who learned to shred at one of the most iconic surf breaks in the states.
